Palette Worked Brooch

This is a beautiful double sided brooch with flat worked/ palette worked human hair curl with a tie of human hair. The back compartment is empty, and both the front and back crystals are intact and undamaged. The seller is listing it as a gutta percha brooch and there is not other information, date, or name attached to this piece.

Hair Flower Wreath for Auction

This is nice horseshoe shaped wreath of human hair flowers made in the wreath worked process. There are at least 50 flowers along with several leaves, twisted single gimp (or looped) wisps, several loops on the ends and the rest in in single gimp (or looped) method in a variety of hair colors and loop sizes. We see outward facing loops and inverted loops used to make a variety of flower in this presentation. There are a few synthetic stamen and some beads in the center of flowers that look like it is wrapped rattan or thin bark. The outer frame is encrusted with seashells! Hair work and seashell artwork were both crafts encouraged to pass the time and give a natural display of craftsmanship using organic materials throughout the 1800's.

This framed piece is currently for sale and is listed at $100 US dollars with a 24% buyers premium through live auctioneers. The frame measures 23.5 inches ( 59.69 cm) wide by 20 ( 50.8 cm) inches long. The back of the frame has a note card that reads,' Hair Wreath and frame made about 1830 by Mr. & Mrs. William A. Butt(?)'.
